Weaning off

As on 28 months old, I am pretty proud with Xandria’s growing milestones. She is fully diaperless during daytime and I just put her on diaper at night to play safe. But I can tell, she indeed has very good adaptabilities. She knows very well she has to pee on diaper and to pee at potty when she is diaperless. What else can I expect?

But talking about pacifier, she refused to wean despite of many tricks I tried on her. I told her that she looks ugly with a pacifier, unlike her cousin JX who so pretty with her dress and no pacifier. I lie to her, in fact my niece JX is still on pacifier but since she isn’t stay near to us, and Xandria likes her so much. By saying so, she takes off her pacifier immediately. But after few hours later, she requested for it again. *slap forehead *

Few weeks ago, I decided to change a new pacifier for her since she refused to wean-off. I bought a different colour from her existing one and it created a big chaos to me. She cried pitiful for unable to have her old pacifier because I have thrown it away. Gosh… for 2 days she has been crying like a baby looking for her old pacifier.

Sighh… I wonder any other tricks to wean her off from pacifier??

I have no experience in this matter coz Gwen doesn’t use the pacifier. I hope you found a solution soon.

1) psycho her (verbally)
2) put minyak angin on pacifier
3) cut the teat almost breaking the pacifier.. then when she suck a few times it’ll break and tell her too bad break liao shop no more.
4) ‘pakat’ with shop, pacifier change for something she likes very much in the shop.

My eldest have thumbsucking habit, and lucky for us.. 1) worked on her.

Jonathan was ok when I changed new pacifier for him. I have not decided to wean him off pacifier yet coz he only need it when he wants to sleep. Another reason is because I can’t bear to deal with his tantrum and cries.

For my girl, I started the weaning off process quite late (2 years 2 months old), but I am lucky that she was still okay throughout the transition. I believe, the earlier the weaning is, the easier they able to adapt it. And also easier they get “cheated” with the tricks we used.

I have chosen the most easiest trick; cut off the teat of the pacifier. You may see the pic from my blog.

I have cooperate with my husband during the whole weaning process. We both told our dotter that her pacifier has spoilt. And she trust our words.
I also put the spoilt pacifier next to her bed so that she could more convinced with the spoilt pacifier.

Oh yes, suddenly I recall what my fren did to her dotter’s pacifier. She lightly burn the teat so that it looked dark and ugly. And my the other fren, she used more an agressive way. She caught a big fly and put it on the pacifier and showed to her dotter.

I guess the more ugly you make the pacifier is, the more Xandria will not want to suck it.
